ALEXANDRIA, Va. – In a federally funded, randomized phase III clinical trial performed by the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), 90% of children and young adults with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) or T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LL) were alive four years after starting treatment regimens on this trial, and 84% were cancer free. These are the highest survival rates for these T-cell malignancies reported to date, according to the authors.

Richard L. Schilsky, MD, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of ASCO, will serve as interim CEO. CancerLinQ LLC will initiate a global search for a permanent CEO to oversee the continued expansion and implementation of CancerLinQ®, ASCO’s big data platform designed to improve the quality of care for people with cancer.

A new study suggests that a large percentage of adolescents and young adults (AYAs) who have been treated for cancer do not seek follow-up care after their primary treatment ends, despite its importance for long-term health. AYA cancer survivors are at increased risk for heart problems, infertility, and secondary cancers from cancer treatment.

The statement, which asserts that any solutions must also preserve patients' access to care and foster innovation, analyzes a wide array of options and recommends that a panel of stakeholders be established to determine which proposals will be effective and develop a uniform approach for assessing the value of drugs.

American Society of Clinical Oncology, Inc. (ASCO®) announced today that the Contemporary Oncology Team of Athens, Greece as part of the new international pilot project, is the first international practice to receive  Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) certification through  QOPI Certification Program, LLC (QCP).

The Senate has confirmed Monica M. Bertagnolli, MD, FACS, FASCO, as the 17th director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She served as president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology from 2018-2019 and is an accomplished cancer surgeon and researcher with deep expertise in community-based cancer research. While the director of the National Cancer Institute, Dr. Bertagnolli played a critical role in elevating the goals of the Cancer Moonshot initiative through the comprehensive National Cancer Plan and ASCO is excited to celebrate her new role leading the nation’s top federal medical research agency.

ALEXANDRIA, Va.  At the 2023 ASCO Quality Care Symposium, ASCO will recognize Deborah K. Mayer, PhD, RN, AOCN, FAAN, with the Joseph Simone Quality Care Award and Lecture, which recognizes visionary oncology care providers who excel in quality care. Dr. Mayer will be the first nurse to receive this award. On Friday, October 27, 2023, at 10:45 AM ET, she will receive the award and present her lecture, “Reflections on Improving Cancer Care: How Can We Do Better for Our Patients and Ourselves?” The meeting will be held in Boston, MA, and online from October 27-28, 2023.
