“The Association for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) applauds the proposed $9 billion funding increase for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in President Biden’s budget request for Fiscal Year (FY) 2022. Such a significant proposed investment in biomedical research demonstrates a real commitment from the Administration to supporting the nation’s research infrastructure. 

“We are also encouraged by the Administration’s request for $153 million for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Social Determinants of Health program, which aims to expand access to culturally competent care by supporting States and Territories in improving health equity and data collection for racial and ethnic populations. Addressing disparities in cancer care and outcomes is a top priority for ASCO, so we are pleased to see this focus in the Administration as well.

“ASCO is eager to see further details and proposals related to the president’s 2022 budget request, particularly with regard to the Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). We are also looking forward to working with the Administration to implement policies that improve access to high-quality, equitable health care and provide robust funding for biomedical research."
