First awarded in 2007, this award and lectureship were created in the name of B.J. Kennedy, MD, a past president of ASCO, in honor of his outstanding contributions to the research, diagnosis and treatment of cancer in the elderly, and in recognition of his bringing an understanding of the field to the many fellows that he mentored.

The award consists of an honorarium, a commemorative plaque, and support to the recipient to attend the ASCO Annual Meeting. The recipient then delivers a 30-minute lecture at the ASCO Annual Meeting.

The award recipient must agree to be interviewed by the ASCO Daily News and will also need to provide the abstract of the presentation for Annual Meeting materials.
